etcetera…

every time i write any version of an artist statement/biography/introduction, i have to resist the urge to keep tacking things on until it becomes both unmanageably long and incomprehensible.

i keep toying around with getting an ampersand tattoo: consider this the digital portfolio manifestation of that impulse.

writing

i have been a writer since long before i became an artist. all four years of high school, i was in an intensive writing program, and though other mediums now take up much - almost all, really - of my practice, the writer’s sensibility still undergirds it.

i am a retired slam poet, a lapsed performance poet, and occasionally a poet. sometimes my poetry shows up in my art, sometimes it never shows up anywhere. two of my poems, “imprint” and “cowboy country” showed up in the 2023 issue of Rice University’s literary magazine, The Rice Review, and can be read online.

in addition to the writing that appears in my videos and short films, i have written screenplays, fiction, and creative non-fiction. sometimes i dabble in theory and criticism, but nothing concrete or cogent enough to share.

an origin story (or, Town 21)

Town 21 was my high school senior project that i developed, wrote, and produced with four of my friends and creative collaborators. i wrote and/or contributed to the full script, and served as lead camera operator and editor for the film portions. i also did all my own stunts.
